How to measure for blinds
Many people ask, How to measure Window Blinds? Or How can I measure my windows for a Free Blinds Quote? Read on to Learn.
First you will need a tape measure, second you are looking to capture the height and width of the window space you want the blind to fit inside.
Do I measure inside or outside the window space?
Hold the Tape measure and extend it across the window space from left to right. Then repeat from top to bottom. This is the inner wall-to-wall and inner window top to the window sill. We call this inside space, Inside the recess.
If your blind is to go on the wall “outside” the window cove you can measure this space in the same way, we call this outside the recess.

- Measure inside width in several places, particularly at the top of the recess
- Measure inside drop in several places
- We will make the necessary allowances
*It is essential to measure the smallest width and drop and to be aware of obstacles such as tiles and picture frames.
OUTSIDE RECESS
If you would like your blinds to hang outside your window recess, you need to decide the size you prefer. We suggest a blind should project at least 75mm (3″) over the whole of the recess
- Measure and record the width and drop you would like.
